  18. <p>     Teenagers are prone to identity crises, but no one has more
  19. reason to be confused than KIMBERLY MAYS, who was switched with
  20. another baby at birth. Just seven months ago, the 15-year-old
  21. begged a Sarasota, Florida, judge not to return her to her biological
  22. parents, Ernest and Regina Twigg. "I hate the Twiggs," she said.
  23. Last week Mays, described by her lawyer as having "personal
  24. difficulties," left her father Robert Mays, entered a youth
  25. shelter and finally went to stay with the Twiggs. "Mom," she
  26. said to Regina Twigg, "I love you and I want to come home."

  30. <p>     There is a seductively boyish mischievousness to HUGH GRANT
  31. that one suspects he's worked hard to suppress of late. In three
  32. new films, all out this month, Grant plays a priggish minister
  33. (Sirens), a diffident commitment-phobe (Four Weddings and a
  34. Funeral) and an archetypically repressed British husband (Bitter
  35. Moon). Although an admitted John Hughes fan, Grant delighted
  36. in working with Bitter Moon director Roman Polanski. "You start
  37. at noon, you have a big boozy lunch, and then you'll find his
  38. wife--bored on the set--taking off her shirt. It's not like
  39. working on a Merchant-Ivory film."

  43. <p>     Having earned $46 million during the past two years, David Copperfield
  44. is ready to immerse himself in the role of good provider. Dressing
  45. her hand with a very nonillusory bauble, the magician proposed
  46. to girlfriend Claudia Schiffer on a remote Caribbean island.
  47. Abracadabra, she accepted.

  49. <p>     Axl Rose may be even more troubled than he seems. A suit filed
  50. by his ex-wife Erin Everly claims that Rose not only beat her
  51. repeatedly but is currently getting exorcised because he fears
  52. he's possessed. Rose's psychotherapist allegedly told Everly
  53. that her actions in a past life made Rose violent in this life.

  55. <p>     It's an unsettling prospect: the singer of Half-Breed taking
  56. on, say, Embraceable You. Yes, Cher is contributing to an all-Gershwin
  57. album. She's got rhythm, all right, but please, let's call the
  58. whole thing off.

  60. <p>Time to Vogue
  61. </p>
  62. <p>     Few sights could be more distracting than that of models wearing
  63. edible Issey Miyake hats. And yet during the showing of the
  64. fall collections in Paris, it was the cast of Robert Altman's
  65. Pret a Porter that provided the real spectacle. Altman shot
  66. footage for his fashion-world satire right at the shows, placing
  67. his stars (many of them portraying reporters) on the front lines.
  68. Players SALLY KELLERMAN, KIM BASINGER, LAUREN BACALL and RUPERT
  69. EVERETT took in Christian Dior's wares. "What's going on is
  70. a real confusion of the movie and reality," noted Lyle Lovett,
  71. also in the film. "What's real and what's not? It makes a statement
  72. about fashion."
